It’s their first new song in six years.
Gorillaz are back. Damon Albarn’s celebrated group returns with “Hallelujah Money,” which features UK singer/songwriter Benjamin Clementine.
It’s an eerie, almost post-apocalyptic track. Clementine sings about money, power and building walls (“even stronger than the walls of Jericho”) in front of clips of bizarre cartoons and killer clowns.
Then, Albarn’s familiar voice comes in for the chorus: “When the morning comes, we are still human. How will we know? How will we dream? How will we love?”
As the song comes to a close, there’s one more surprise: a visual of the one and only Spongebob Squarepants freaking out.
