THROWBACK THURSDAY: I have been a huge Beach Boys fan since I can remember. The first concert I ever attended was the Beach Boys concert at the Queen Mary on July 5th, 1981. It was MC'ed by radio legends Wolfman Jack and Charlie Tuna.
When I was doing nights at Power 97 in Vegas in 1988, I finally got to meet them. A bunch of us got to go on stage to announce that their single, Kokomo just went #1.
When I was working in Monterey, I kept bumping into Al Jardine (who lived in the area). The first time was while I was broadcasting at TGIFriday's in Salinas for 102.5 KDON. He and his son came by to said hi and have dinner. I saw him again at the Monterey Airport. Later, while I was broadcasting live from a bar for a CD93 Survivor finale party, he popped in to join in on the party.
One day, he had to come by out studios to do a BBC interview. He joked about how we are always bumping into each other, and was kind enough to be on my show and just hang out.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: 1998. Comedian Shirley Hemphill ("What's Happening!!") came by the KDON studios to visit with Dr. Maimes and Taylor Morgan, before doing her stand up gig. She was the sweetest lady in the world. She overhead a conversation I had about some financial struggles I was having at the time. She came up to me and with a sweet voice asked, "Maverick? You need some money, hon?! Here, let Shirley help you, Maverick." "No thank you, Shirley. I'll be OK."
"Come on, Maverick. Buy a little something for your daughter."
She passed away shortly after this photo.

THROWBACK THURSDAY: While working at 102.5 KDON in Monterey, I got to fly a stunt plane before the Salinas Air Show. I did a barrel roll and a dive.
