  • Italy produced enough variety of marble to allow her artists to choose from the large palette of marble colors and patterns. There were marble that mimicked the idealized skin tone, flower petals, draping fabric, book covers, lightning, wood, sea waves, geological patterns, etc. Marble was so perfect for carving that the Renaissance artists swore by it as their material of choice.
