Public Safety Announcement: Change your ionization alarms to safer more reliable Photoelectric / heat smoke alarms. The so called "smoke" alarms in approx. 90% of homes do not detect smoldering smoke and has resulted in 100's of 1000's of deaths and millions of severe injuries over last 40 + years since the manufactures and UL rigged the testing so these dangerous devices would pass the smoldering smoke phase of test and then the manufactures falsely advertised these often deadly devices and flooded the market and have been covering it up ever since despite many lawsuits. An ionization alarm also contains radioactive element Amercium 41 which they claim is not hazardous in small amounts but should the alarm melt in a fire occupants could breath in radioactive smoke which they have done no studies on.
