WHAT THE HELL IS "FALLOUT" ABOUT?
(WARNING: SPOILERS!)
In light of the recent announcement and trailer for Fallout 4 (fallout4.com) I want to give those who have no frame of reference for the series a quick'n'dirty rundown of the series lore and history.
First, the storyline is this:
In the Fallout timeline, during the 1940's and 1950's, nuclear technology advanced quickly but for some reason, electronics miniaturization did not. So transistors never shrunk to microscopic levels and computers retained hardware transistors and vacuum tubes. Cars began to be built to run on nuclear reactors, nuclear batteries were made, and eventually other electronics and programming technologies did advance, to the point of A.I. and robots being available to every home, and even the favorite sodas of the time, Nuka-Cola, was made with a touch of radioactive material in certain versions to give it a glow. And the style, and the music, stuck around... so everything kept a 40's-50's sort of feel... cars had fins, ever
