A Note From Dave …
Hello everyone,
I'm going to be back and forth to Ontario a bit this month as well as doing a few shows here and there around the East Coast.
The last couple of weeks have been full of surprises. Last week I found out that "These Hands" was the First Place Winner in the Great American Song Contest. Right after receiving this great news I was off to Charlottetown for the East Coast Music Awards and performed with my good friend David Francey singing "A Game Goin' On". During the Gala Show I was blown away to hear my name called out twice as the winner of two ECMAs, one for Songwriter of the Year and the second for Solo Recording of the Year. What a great weekend of music and hanging with friends including this guy in the photo with me, Old Man Luedecke, who also won two ECMAs to add to his collection. We also loved the potatoes and got into them right after the show. ..read more.. www.davegunning.com/

Canadian folk musician, Dave Gunning wins
Hockey Night in Canada’s Song Quest competition!
(Halifax, NS) - Multi award-winning Pictou County-based musician, Dave Gunning has won CBC Music and Hockey Night in Canada’s Song Quest competition with his song, “A Game Goin’ On”.
Throughout this hockey season, CBC ‘s “Hockey Night in Canada” and CBCMusic.ca have been searching for inspirational, energetic songs to excite hockey fans from coast to coast.
"The original idea for this song came from David Francey and he asked me to co-write it with him. We worked on it some during a Celtic Colours Festival songwriting retreat but never had time to finish it," says Gunning. "Last year during the NHL lockout we finished the song. I was certainly frustrated along with so many other hockey fans and felt it was good timing to release a song that encapsulated the old fashioned love of the game the real reason why so many of us play hockey either professionally or for fun."...read more - www.davegunning.com/

From Dave: David Francey brought this idea to me during a Celtic Colours Festival songwriters workshop in Cape Breton. We tossed around ideas and continued working on the song via email. We finished writing the song during the lock-out last year with the desire to reflect the roots of where hockey all began for many players, and to reflect the good old fashioned love of the game.
