“Someday, if you have kids, and you get a virus and start killing people, you’ll appreciate how well we’re doing,”
Timothy Olyphant’s character Joel Hammond tells daughter Abby (Liv Hewson) in the season 2 trailer for The Santa Clarita Diet. After all, it’s not easy when your married to a zombie mom.
Olyphant and Drew Barrymore are back as mild-mannered California realtors Joel and Sheila Hammond, whose lives were upended in the horror-comedy’s first season when Sheila mysteriously rose from the dead and began craving the taste of human flesh. Although neighbor Eric Bemis (Skyler Gisondo) found an ancient Serbian cure for her decomposition, the problems that come with being a member of the walking dead are only just beginning, especially when there are a string of copycat dismemberments taking place in Santa Clarita that might mean there’s another zombie around.
In addition to guest stars Gerald McRaney, Zachary Knighton, Joel McHale, and Maggie Lawson (McHale and Lawson play a hyper-competitive fellow realtor power couple), this season will also bring back another returning face — literally. Look for Castle’s Nathan Fillion, who portrayed Sheila’s first kill Gary, to reprise his role — minus a body.
The entire second season of The Santa Clarita Diet will begin streaming on Netflix March 23.
