The film tells the tale of Captain Sullenberg’s emergency landing on the Hudson River in 2009.
This fall, Tom Hanks takes on the difficulties of piloting a falling plane. In the upcoming biopic, the actor stars as Sullenberg, the confident captain who successfully guided US Airways Flight 1549 down in an emergency landing after the plane lost both of its engines.
As well as being a dramatic survival story, the Clint Eastwood-directed film will dive into the investigation around the emergency crash landing.
“People saw the landing, but what followed is where the conflict is,” said Eastwood to Entertainment Weekly. “There was an investigation into his decision and it was painting a picture that he had done the wrong thing, that he could have made it back to La Guardia or Teterboro. What happened behind closed doors is what most people don’t know.”
Sully also stars Laura Linney, Anna Gunn and Autumn Reeser. The film is due out on September 9.
