The hard-rocking band just released their debut full-length, 'ROCKISDEAD.'

Both lyrically and melodiously provocative, DOROTHY combines recklessly sexy lead female vocals with the instrumental prowess of three men who could easily play alongside their musical idols. In a music industry that’s constantly being shifted by new trends, the Los Angeles-based band remains true to who they are at their core. “What’s on the outside will always change, but what’s on the inside is about the emotional experience and how you feel,” says vocalist Dorothy Martin. “If I feel like I’m not into something or I’m faking it or sick of something, I’m not going to fuck with it anymore.”

DOROTHY took a minute before an acoustic performance—which included an introduction from actor Efren Ramirez—for the release of their debut album, ROCKISDEAD, to pose for a few photos and let Myspace get to know them a little bit better.

Dorothy Martin

Age:
100... Okay, I’m 30.
Instrument: Vocals
Song or Band That Inspired You to Become a Musician: It would have to be a tie between Pink Floyd and Michael Jackson, because those were the first two records I ever heard.
Favorite Song to Play off of ROCKISDEAD: It’s a tie between “Kiss It”—because the energy is so high and I get to be really sassy—and then “Woman,” because it’s so different from the record. It really was written for a live [performance]. There are so many dynamics. It’s got this real bluesy verse that’s down here, and then it explodes into more of an in-your-face "fuck you." It’s kind of like saying "if you can’t treat me right, then get the fuck out of my restaurant!"
Looking Forward to Most on Tour: Meeting the Struts and watching them play. Meeting their fans, because I don’t even know if they’ll like us. They may hate us. We’re either going to fist fight or we’ll win them over. And maybe going to places we haven’t gone to before.

Dylan Howard

Age:
33
Instrument: Drums
Song or Band that Inspired You to Become a Musician: I grew up in a house with a deeply dedicated Ramones fan. My pops always told me, “If these ugly, four guys can turn three chords into hit songs, then anybody can do it.” I’m happy to subscribe to the ugly guy philosophy of making it work against all odds.
Favorite Song to Play off of ROCKISDEAD: I really enjoy playing “Wicked Ones” for sure. I love the vocals, and the bass playing is pretty hot!
Looking Forward to Most on Tour: I’m looking forward to getting that deep-ass family vibe. You know what I’m saying?

Gregg Cash

Age:
30
Instrument: Bass
Song or Band that Inspired You to Become a Musician: This is a really fucked up question, but I’ve got to go Black Sabbath all the way. Geezer Butler is also a weird looking man that plays bass very well. They paved the way for some badass music way early on. Plus, he’s got those hot-ass bass licks!
Favorite Song to Play off of ROCKISDEAD: There’s a song we play live that I overplay on. (Bandmates: Which one is it? Every song?) “Gun in My Hand,” because I get some hot, fire licks all over the place. The record is one thing, but there’s all this room when playing it live! We’ve always been super hip on trying to create an experience live, and the experience for me is to masturbate my bass all over the place.
Looking Forward to Most on Tour: I love playing shows. I love having no other responsibilities than playing shows and hanging out with my bros and bro-dette.

DJ Black

Age:
26
Instrument: Guitar
Song or Band That Inspired You to Become a Musician: I’d have to say Bush—the beginning of Sixteen Stone. I was four years old driving around in my mom’s Suzuki Samurai, and I remember singing those songs. That’s when I thought, Yeah, I’m going to have to do this.
(Bandmates: “Plus, everyone has a man-crush on Gavin Rossdale." “I’d totally put out—first night kind of thing." “True story – Tinder swipe right.”)
Favorite Song to Play off of ROCKISDEAD: I like playing “Woman” the most. Almost for the same reason as Cash liking “Gun in My Hand.” That’s the hot licks song for me.
Looking Forward to Most on Tour: I’m a road dog. I hate being at home. The way most people get tired of being on tour is how I feel about being at home. I like waking up in a different city every day and not knowing where I am. I like just falling off of the bus and wandering.
