For the sixth season of Game of Thrones, HBO decided to not send advance episodes to journalists. The network held a screening, though under the condition that no one gives anything away. Yet as revealed on the red carpet, the network did make an exception for one person. This season, Barack Obama sees new episodes of Game of Thrones before anyone else.
"When the commander-in-chief says, 'I want to see advance episodes,' what are you going to do?" said showrunner David Benioff, during the live stream of the premiere's red carpet event.
Like everyone else, the President reads GOT recaps. He was also dying to know what happened to Jon Snow, so much so that he asked the director what happened. One time, he even approached director David Nutter at a party. "And I said, 'Before you ask, Mr. President, Jon Snow's dead. He's deader than dead. Dead, dead, dead,'" Nutter said, according to actor Liam Cunningham. "And Obama said, 'Thank you very much,' and off he went."
