Flea performed "The Star-Spangled Banner" last night during Kobe Bryant's last game.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist has played the US national anthem during a Lakers game before. He is a devout fan. But this prog-indebted, Jimi Hendrix-favoring rendition was more distorted and meandering. It seemed to drag on.
"Wow. People really don't like me today," he said on Twitter, after seeing some of the reactions. Once Questlove of the Roots showed his support, though, Flea changed his tune. Just call him Francis Scott Flea, as you watch his rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" below.
