Following Miracle Room's demise, Greer and Marsh continued experimenting with homemade instruments, building guitars and basses out of chunks of lumber strung with piano wire and springs. After teaming with drummer Dave Liles and setting him up with a kit comprised of old gas cans, saw blades, and oil drums, Wisdom Tooth honed their noisy, primitive sound by playing at such diverse venues as the Knitting Factory, the Lollapalooza tour, and the Whitney Art Museum before issuing their debut LP, Mental Floss, in 1997. ~ Jason Ankeny
