Wax Idols began in 2011 as the solo vehicle for Bay Area musician Heather Fedewa, aka Hether Fortune.
Fedewa had been working as musician-around-town in the garage/punk scene, doing time as a member of Hunx & His Punx and Bare Wires for a time, and also actively working with Blasted Canyons at the time of Wax Idols' inception. The band's sound was rooted in punk, but with dark gothic undertones, material recorded mostly by Fedewa alone or with the help of various friends. Wax Idols' debut came in the form of the All Too Human 7" in 2011, followed by the full-length No Future later the same year. By the time of 2013's much darker, post-punk-inspired Discipline + Desire, the project became a full-fledged band featuring guitarist/vocalist Jen Mundy, bassist Amy Rosenoff and drummer Keven Tecon. After spending some of 2014 touring with White Lung, Wax Idols -- now consisting of Fortune and drummer Rachel Travers -- collaborated with producer Monte Vallier on American Tragic, a more polished set featuring Fortune's versions of pop anthems. The album arrived in October 2015 on Collect Records. ~ Fred Thomas
