TigerMonkey formed in 2006 as a virtual band for an internet audience comprising of songwriters Michael Payne and Lee Newman.
They first collaborated together while living in Scotland in 2004 and are primarily a song writing duo with aspirations to become established songwriters in the music industry rather than artists. They set pen to paper and fingers to keys to craft a collection of work creating a sound that seemed to naturally progress towards epic soundtracks& a mix of electronic, acoustic and orchestral soundscaping. Trying to ignore the influences from their very different tastes in music and using their own instincts to create a renaissance of sound the eclectic mix worked well and often encompassed their range of 80’s electronic, rock, indie, medieval folk, dance and R&B tastes wrapped in pop edges.
Winning judges favorite for their song “Never Had A Chance” in the Pacific Song Writing Contest in 2005 and their song “Sea of Life” being used as the cover promotion for the competition, this spurred them on into creating more material with the intention of releasing the selected material to artists for them to cover which generated interest from Warner Brothers for film and TV placement and collaboration offers from Atlantic Records. Now in 2013, living in Belford and having grown together as songwriters, they have worked and re-worked on their music for over eight years, recently attempting their hand at a few cover versions of their favorites for fun. So enjoy the sound of the wonderful and ever evolving TigerMonkey.
