Rock to the bone, this band is a real prism the innumerable facets of which are sometimes opposite but always complementary. While listening to this first same-titled EP which has just been released, you will quickly understand that vintage tones can sound more modern than ever. Those bewitching melodies don’t exclude heavy riffs or powerful rhythmics, and a singer with a wide-ranged voice isn’t necessarily doomed to be a soulless brute. Groove, blues, soul, rock, pop mixed in a shaker and served cold, who could resist to such a cocktail ? And please keep in mind that these musicians have some surprises in store for live shows addicts. Far from being cheap, this TRICK will amaze you, let it be known !

When Florent Plataroti (guitar) and Sergio Rodrigues (keyboard) decided one day to form a new band, THE TRICK, Benoît Martiny (drums) and Apollo Munyanshongore (bass) both agreed to join them. But it is only after an instrumental era which was especially well noticed on stage that Lata Gouveia (vocals) also joined the band. The will to record some music became so irrepressible for THE TRICK that the same-titled EP (2017) took everybody by surprise : this simply is a musical bomb !

You will always find people who want to stick some stylistic labels on the band they are listening too, then, good luck to them because THE TRICK offers such a wide range of influences it seems impossible to categorize them. This international band with members originating from France, Luxembourg and Portugal have travelled so much all over the world and brought back so many musical souvenirs that they have created a unique universe where vintage sounds allied to a typical rock energy and a soul voice create an absolute modernity you could qualify of alternative.

As said earlier, the band got noticed by the audience first, but professionals of the area also welcomed these musicians who, thanks to their different musical projects, please take note, did share bills with such legends as ZZ Top, Larry Graham, Manfred Mann, Charlie Winston, Jimmy Agren, or Eddie Kirkland !

Bon courage ! C’est ce qu’il faudra souhaiter aux agaçants colleurs d’étiquettes s’ils veulent s’amuser avec THE TRICK. Résolument rock, le groupe est un prisme dont les facettes sont parfois opposées mais toujours complémentaires : à l’écoute du EP éponyme qui vient de sortir, on sait maintenant que l’on peut évoquer les charmes du vintage tout en sonnant de façon terriblement moderne. Que les mélodies ensorcelantes n’excluent pas pour autant les riffs heavy et les rythmiques puissantes. Qu’un chanteur au registre étendu n’est pas obligatoirement condamné à l'éternelle démonstration de force. Groove, blues, soul, rock, pop, tout ça dans un shaker et servi très frais, comment résister ? Ce n’est qu’après une période pendant laquelle le groupe jouera de façon instrumentale que Lata Gouveia (chant) rejoint la formation qui s’est entre-temps fait remarquer sur scène. L’envie d’un premier enregistrement se fait ensuite sentir, un EP éponyme voit le jour en 2017 et sonne comme une petite bombe rock que personne n’avait senti arriver.

Si on devait écoper du sale boulot de coller une étiquette stylistique sur les compositions de THE TRICK, les pistes seraient trop nombreuses pour se limiter à une ou deux. Leur formation internationale (France, Luxembourg, Portugal pour être précis) , leurs multiples influences et voyages aux quatre coins du monde ont dirigé ces musiciens expérimentés vers un univers très personnel où les racines (sonorités vintage, énergie rock, voix soul) se prolongent dans une absolue modernité que l’on qualifierait d’alternative si une fois de plus un épithète était à choisir.

On l’a déjà dit, le public a très tôt remarqué le potentiel de la formation, mais les professionnels ne sont pas en reste car rappelons que les musiciens du groupe ont grâce à leurs différents projets partagé l’affiche avec ZZ Top, Larry Graham, Manfred Mann, Charlie Winston, Jimmy Agren, Eddie Kirkland… !
