Former gospel vocalist Thelma Jones moved to R&B when she recorded the original version of "The House That Jack Built." While a serviceable job, it was blown out of the water by Aretha Franklin's definitive version years later.
Her best song was "Salty Tears," a great tearjerker that unfortunately didn't make the impact that it should have. Jones recorded Thelma Jones for Columbia in 1978, but her cover of Smokey Robinson's "I Second That Emotion" fizzled, as did a 1987 Barry single, "Never Leave Me." ~ Ron Wynn
