Montreal-based quartet the Hoof & the Heel blend the lush vocals of Christine Hale and Harris Shper with electro-folk instrumentation to create rousing, summery melodies.
The seeds for the group were planted in 2008, when singer/guitarist Shper met drummer Farid Rener while working together at a bar. Weeks later, Hale relocated from Los Angeles to join the band, bringing keyboards as well as her vocals to the mix. Soon after, the then-trio played its first show, winning over the crowd in the process. In 2009, the quartet embarked on a U.S. tour and recorded its first EP, And All the Tigers. During the EP recording process, Al Mal completed the lineup as bassist as he and Hale hit it off at a rock lotto event. The band self-released And All the Tigers in spring 2010, generating some buzz with the romantic music video for the song "Fireworks." ~ Chrysta Cherrie
