Formed in Newport, South Wales, the Death of Her Money became familiar figures on the Welsh touring circuit.
The band initially collaborated together when school friends Darren Kaskie and Ian Charles, and original bassist Nicky Williams, joined together to jam, taking the influences of Pelican, Isis, and Nirvana as a template. The Death of Her Money gained a loyal cult following in their homeland, and supported bands such as This Will Destroy You and the Icarus Line very early on in their career.

Releases were also steady, and included a handful of singles and EPs, plus two albums, Spirit of the Stairwell and You Are Loved. Spirit of the Stairwell was well regarded and received many positive reviews. The band released You Are Loved in 2011 on Russian label Slow Burn Records, catching the attention of more followers in the international market, particularly in Eastern Europe. There was also a change in personnel, with Alex Morgan taking over on bass duties. The Death of Her Money released a split 7" with Russian band Helga, and following this, undertook a tour of Eastern Europe. The band played in their label's homeland of Russia, and also in the Ukraine. ~ James Pearce
