Tucson band Bread and Circus played roots rock with strong elements of Americana, country, and cowpunk on their 2007 debut CD, Spare Me Over.
The band was formed by singer, guitarist, audio engineer, and Signalhouse Recording studio owner John Axtell, who'd played in Medicine Hat, Sun Zoom Spark, and Daddy Mac and the Drunk Tank. Initially the group began as a duo and casual recording project with drummer Sam Donaldson (formerly of the Dharma Bums), expanding to include guitarist/singer Eric Johnson (formerly of Black Sun Ensemble and Sun Zoom Spark) and bassist Joe Yearego (formerly of Los Federales). ~ Richie Unterberger
