Terisa Griffin's sophisticated R&B carries on the gospel- and soul-rooted tradition of Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, and Angela Winbush.
The Louisiana-bred, Chicago-based singer and songwriter has released all of her albums independently through her My Naked Soul label. Emotionally wrenching piano ballads, sophisticated house workouts, and effortlessly cool midtempo grooves were served up through My Naked Soul (2007), Soulzophrenic and Soulzophrenic Dance (both 2011), and Revival of Soul (2015), albums that displayed remarkable range and depth. The last of that bunch was released after Griffin competed on the third season of The Voice and saw her fan base grow after renditions of "Someone Like You" (Adele) and "Saving All My Love for You" (Whitney Houston). In addition to touring as a singer, Griffin has produced a number of one-woman stage productions that have honored the likes of Josephine Baker, Billie Holiday, and Tina Turner, among other legendary vocalists. An occasional actor, she appeared in Hill Harper's The Truth, for which she provided the title song. ~ Andy Kellman
