San Francisco's Bay Area is known, at least in name, by every metal fan. In the early Eighties dozens of bands such as Metallica, Testament and Slayer stood on the first steps of the ladder to fame in packed clubs. It was a pity that the apparently bottomless pool seemed to dry up in the Nineties. But in 1996 Erik Cameron and his brother Chris formed the band TOTAL ECLIPSE (www.myspace.com/teclipse114). After a search for musicians who shared their passion, they met drummer Ramon Ochoa in 1998. A short time later experienced bass player Owen Hart joined the band. The line-up was completed in January 1999 by singer Andy Dracons Giardina - also in PANDEMIC (www.myspace.com/norcalpandemic ), and now the only original member from Total Eclipse's original line-up - who had already made a name for himself in his native Italy before moving to the USA to finish his academic studies and advance his musical career (Andy's latest side-project, PANDEMIC - one of the most influential and recognized bands to emerge from the Bay Area metal circuit - showcases a fusion of modern and traditional thrash/power/grindcore/melodic death/black metal. Pandemic's LP "Infecting the World" was released in 2007 and received very favorable reviews and worldwide attention).

The chemistry between the Cameron brothers and the rest of the band was just right and within a year they had enough material for a demo. The Total Eclipse "Guardians of Metal" EP was released internationally in 1999 and caused a riot in the press.

Encouraged by the demo's success, Total Eclipse contacted producer Uwe Lulis (Grave Digger, Rebellion, Wizard, etc...) and before long the band had signed a deal with Limb Music; the album "Ashes of Eden" was released world-wide to much critical acclaim. Legendary Piet Sielck (Iron Savior, Blind Guardian, Paragon, Heavenly) was also involved in the mixing and production of the album. In 2004, the original line-up disintegrated following a decision made by the Cameron Brothers to pursue a different musical direction. After parting ways with Limb Music, and having legally acquired the name of the band, Giardina decided to find another label to release their new second album, "Spellcaster," also produced by Uwe Lulis, recorded in the Bay Area and - appropriately - somewhere near the Black Forest in Germany, then remastered in 2007/08 in San Francisco. The music is an expansion of the sound of the Ashes of Eden album and the Guardians of Metal demo, but taken to the extreme and definitely proof of the musical evolution of the entity known as Total Eclipse.

Meanwhile, in 2006 Giardina had begun his involvement with his side-project PANDEMIC (www.myspace.com/norcalpandemic ), playing shows promoting the band and recording a full length LP (”Infecting the World”) which was released in 2006. In October 2007, following the PANDEMIC project, Andy Dracons Giardina decided to resurrect Total Eclipse after the band's 3-year hiatus from the scene, and simultaneously release the long-awaited second LP "Spellcaster". After many hardships, including a brief stint with a potential new reformed line-up that didn't quite work out, the quest to fulfill the reincarnation of Total Eclipse continued and, in 2008, with Divine aid, the band found Brian Davy to fulfill drumming duties for the second coming of Total Eclipse and in 2009 the band entered Faultline Studios in San francisco, CA to begin recording the 4th LP Kukulcan. In March, 2010, Gary Pryor joined the band as temporary session/ tour bassist, and the band embarked on a 2 week North American summer Tour as main support to legendary metal act IMAGIKA. Andy Dracons Giardina, of course, reprises his role on vocals and as "sonic transducer," but is also handling guitar and bass duties on the new LP "Kukulcan".

The new line-up (the 3rd in the history of the band) is currently comprised of the original vocalist Andy Dracons Giardina, a new bassist: Derek Gorman; and a new drummer: Derik Ziperle. After a long 2-year campaign the band is still auditioning for new guitarists in their quest to fulfill the 3rd Incarnation of the Entity known as TOTAL ECLIPSE.

All Total Eclipse albums and individual songs are now available in digital format on CDBaby, i-tunes, Amazon.com and many others- presently both the "Spellcaster" & "Ashes of Eden" LPs, as well as the "Guardians Of Metal" EP and the new LP Kukulcan, are all available for digital download.

In the meantime the album "Spellcaster" is available worldwide also through various renowned distributors, among which: SENTINEL STEEL RECORDS -US (www.sentinelsteel.com ), HIT-MAN RECORDS- Japan (www.hitman-metal.com, www.myspace.com/hitmanrecordsmetal ),HELLION RECORDS- Germany (www.hellionrecords.de , www.myspace.com/hellionrecordsitzehoe ),FOREVER ROCK - Germany (www.forever-rock.de ,Sub-division of our former record label Limb Music GmbH),- ROCK IT UP RECORDS -Germany (www.rockitup.org , www.myspace.com/rockituprecords ), AMOEBA RECORDS (San Francisco, www.amoeba.com ), SHAXUL RECORDS (www.shaxurecords.com , www.myspace.com/shaxulrecords ); the band is always looking for more distributors world-wide interested in carrying "Spellcaster" and "Kukulcan" and help to spread the band’s SPIRITUAL MESSAGE.

Ashes Of Eden

« SPELLCASTER» Review from THE METAL-OBSERVER (By Ralf Henn) Vote: 9/10 -English Translation from the German:

TOTAL ECLIPSE published their mini-CD "Storm Warning" a landmark of the epic US-Metals. Then the debut album following afterwards „Ashes Of of Eden" appeared on the giant Limb Music-Label, however, could not fulfil my expectations. Too much Euro-Metal, speak Powermetal and less US-Metal was (for me) the problem. Still not a bad album. The band broke up, nevertheless. "Hell On Earth", however, the real debut was called and, unfortunately, never appeared. Frontman Andrea D. Giardina animated T. ECLIPSE again with a new Line-Up and brings out the aforesaid album now, finally, indeed, with moved song order and the new title "Spellcaster". And this is exactly the entire album which I would have expected at that time after the mini-CD. Great US-Metal with a lot of "smoking Guitars and screaming Vocals"! Though the songs are all a little bit complicated and detailed-mad, but as well as it itself for the genre puts out heard also the charm. To straight, too happily may not be of good US-Metal. Some MAIDENS, FATES WARNING-or QUEENSRYCHE influences are to be heard, but I have already heard worse references. The song material is great and will guarantee moist underpants for every follower of the holy US-Metals from SANCTUARY via HELSTAR up to the called. One hears only the dynamic title song, hear Euro-Metal with neoclassical Soli with US-Metal on the most superior merge.

NEW ALBUM "SPELLCASTER" REVIEW FROM METAL TO INFINITY(BELGIUM-by STEFAN) VOTE: 96/100 Pts

TOTAL ECLIPSE - SPELLCASTER

INDEPENDENT

METAL TO INFINITY

Defenders of classic minded US Metal in the vein of Held Under, Wind Wraith, Zandelle, Miles Beyond, Gothic Knights or Immortal Avenger... watch out very closefully to what I'd like to tell you right now about a band, hailing from The Bay Area of California, named Total Eclipse!Way back in the 80s, most of the bands hailed us from the Bay Area were Thrash Metal outfits. I immediately think of Testament, Possessed, Forbidden, Laaz Rockit, Heathen, Slayer, Detente, Death Angel, Dark Angel and tons of others that ruled with an iron hand. Along with Thrash Metal merchants from the Tampa, Florida... that was one hell of a great and unforgettable period, believe me for sure! Two brothers in crime named Erik and Chris Cameron formed Total Eclipse in the late eighties after their search for the right musicians and same intentions about playing Metal music.

They practised fingers to the bone and that was rewarded with the release of an EP called ''Guardians Of Metal''. Current singer of the band Andy Giardina brought me in touch with the songs on it via an internet connection, The only thing I've got to do was downloading all the songs, listen to it to discuss after all. As a fan of US Classic Metal, I was immediately hooked on what I heard that moment. I was some kind of impressed by the way these guys delivered their way of Metal better to described as Traditional Heavy Metal with power outbreaks, very remarkable (kinda melancholic) singer, very melodic… all that was played with an epic approach and it works contagious.

Three years later in 2003, Total Eclipse was back after they signed a deal with Limb Music Products. A full length album entitled ''Ashes Of Eden'' saw daylight and also this effort was sent to me the same way as we did for their debut EP. Via the net I was a witness of their second assault and yeah - I was still hooked on the band's way of Metal! Great response from all over the world - everything went good, at least for a while. They parted ways with Limb Music but wanted to show up again with a third and actually second, full length album. Plans were made but here and there, thing went not so good which brought the band in an uncomfortable situation for about 4 years.

Total Eclipse held strong to their faith In Metal and own future - a new line-up has been created late 2007 and the follow up to ''Ashes Of Eden'' came finally out by the title of ''Spellcaster''. The band sent me a copy to write this review and I'm so damn thrilled about the end result, I hardly can't explain how beautiful this effort really is. Real unique vocal use of Italian frontman Andy Giardina takes the band to a higher level straight on - this guys has something special deep within his voice, should I call it melancholic or what? Anyway, this is a very remarkable vocalist that brings on shivers down my spine. By the way, he's also active in another band called Pandemic but we will discuss that band and CD review later on (keep looking for MTI's CD reviews). The twin guitar brothers of Metal Erik and Chris deliver a true battle of the axes. Melodic to the extreme, so perfectly played concerning riffings and solo movements - I nearly had a cardiac arrest while listening.

Present on 'Spellcaster' are 8 songs of an extremely high quality. Without hesitating, I can describe this product as and top notch, very promising Heavy Metal album in a classic vein. 'Hell On Earth', 'Final Evolution', 'Storm Warrior', 'Spellcaster',... one by one breathtaking works that satisfies my heart and inner soul completely.

A thrill for my Heavy Metal ears - Without a record label right now which is very pity for this guys. They are so damn good is what the bring to the masses so to all people involved in label companionship... eyes open wide for Total Eclipse, they're more worth to sign a record deal than anyone else. Of me, they get all the support and appreciation which they have necessary and deserve! Find out more while cruising their website via: http://www.myspace.com/teclipse114 A US Metal masterpiece! MY POINTS: 96 /100

Before the ashes of eden's fall, Total Eclipse - the sacred guardians of metal - had written and recorded - Spellcaster. Once the Cameron brothers closed the doors on this sacred vision, Andy revived the band, being the last bastion of the former promise. He has thankfully re-issued this 2001 recording which Limb Music unwittingly decided to shelve, much to our dismay.

This is a must own masterpiece of Classic Metal, produced by Uwe Lulis, originally known - as Hell On Earth. This re-issue is professionally done, and includes the rough demo version for -Ashes Of Eden. The music is above what is to be expected, and never below what one will appreciate.

The 2000 Guardians Of Metal Demo received very favorable reviews, and established Total Eclipse as a worthy contender for the new millennium, along with Onward, Destiny's End, Jacob's Dream, and their ilk. Finally seeing the light of day, after several evolutions, this originally intended debut album, still holds up today as a truly genius metal storm warning; frozen in time.

The songs are very detailed, enduring, and involved, some clocking in over nine minutes. They are not progressive, in the sense of the meaning today. There are no keyboards, and the guitar harmonies are very melodic. Think of the grandiose epics by Iron Maiden like - Seventh Son, Alexander The Great, Afraid To Shoot Strangers, Sign Of The Cross, etc. In fact, fans of Pharaoh, ARYA, Aska, The Iron Maidens, and other Maiden inspired bands will seek and find reconciliation through Total Eclipse.

Hell On Earth initiates the alchemical wedding of mind and spirit. Andy's suggestive vocals are very unique, and well-trained, not quite falsetto. This sonic traducer's savage range often reminds me of both Bruce Hall, and John Cyriis of Agent Steel, intermingled with Eric "A.K". Knutson of the glorious Flotsam & Jetsam Doomsday / Disgrace Age. Sign of the time changes of Geoff Tate, Michael Grant, and James Rivera reciprocate, as well.

Erik wrote most of the unfathomable musical constructions, along with his brother Chris. Guitar wise, I sense the conscious work of Toby Knapp, Dan DeLucie (both Destiny's End and Crescent Shield), and Matt Johnsen of Pharaoh. There are an astounding amount of harmony soliloqouys, and classical arrangement, ever present.

Lyrically, Erik penned - Final Evolution, Storm Warning (which also appears on Ashes), and Ashes. The rest of the body of theurgical work is given over to Andy, who expresses his mettlephysical, mystical, gnostic canon of fluidity with caution, care, and repose. Songs such as 7 Trials, Spellcaster, and Above & Below are stellar evidence of this accomplishment.

The only non spectacular song would be - The Flames Of Eternity. That said, this song transcends many of the so-called epics being praised today. The production is still tight, save the last song, which is an unmastered demo.

I highly recommend this victorious evolution of sound, despite the severed Cameron brood's bloodbath trials . I honour - the avenger - Andy Giardina for being the gatekeeper of truth, and keeping this band alive and prospering.

I'm very excited about the re-issue for - Guardains Of Metal - which will include some great covers by Maiden, Priest, Megadeth, Slayer, Helloween, and many more influential acts. I entreat you to support the stormbringer's cause and follow the spellcaster.

-NEW ALBUM SPELLCASTER REVIEW FROM SEA OF TRANQUILITY (By Scott Ward) Vote: 3.5/5 stars

Total Eclipse: Spellcaster

When you think of epic fantasy metal, the first place that comes to mind is Europe. With groups such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Iron Fire and a host of others leading the way, this has been the hotbed for such music. That is until Total Eclipse decided to enter the ranks from their home in San Francisco. With more than a passing nod to the heavy metal gods, this band led by the piercing vocals of Andy Giardina and the dual guitar attack of brothers Erik and Chris Cameron manage to capture both the spirit and the classic feel of their heroes. Total Eclipse delivers a slice of metal that will have you reaching for your Broadsword and looking for the dragon to slay! They are also not afraid to deal with spirituality in their lyrics. Leading off with a classic tale of good versus evil, "Hell On Earth" is a high energy introduction to the band and the very unique vocal style of Andy Giardina. While trying to pinpoint a way to describe his voice, I finally decided to give up and just say that it is something that will grow on you much in the way Geddy Lee of Rush does as he uses his vocal ability to go where no one has before! It is the brothers Cameron who fuel the classic sound of Total Eclipse. Like those who have traveled this road before, they will bring you the feel of old school but with a seductive power and overwhelming collage of fiery metal riffs and solos. Total Eclipse is not afraid to let the music flow. Many of the songs have extended instrumental sections that are very well done and fit the subject matter extremely well. In the nine minute plus title track "Spellcaster" the brothers manage to elicit thoughts of a world where Kudalini reside or the Dragonslayer may be summoned to use his cunning.

In the song "Flames Of Eternity" which is my personal favorite, the band uses a very anthem like approach that give you the feeling of a grand epic tale. The brothers once again create a soundscape that inspires. Andy's vocals and lyrics are a mystical combination that offers you a good taste of pure fantasy escapism.

While I cannot say that these guys have a totally unique sound or approach to their music, it is easy to say that what they do, they do quite well! It is also one of those discs that grow on you the more you listen to it. The main thing I hear is the potential that will make me pick up their next offering without question. Spellcaster has set the stage for what should be a very long career. Just put this disc into the player between Maiden and Dio and you will have a mighty line-up for your listening pleasure!!Track listing:

2. Final Evolution
