Tasheen Parrish Thomas is a classically trained countertenor from Buffalo, New York.
Mr. Thomas was most recently featured with the Crane Opera Ensemble as Oberon in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, as Isabella in Rossini's L'italiana in Algeri (both in partial role) and, as Arnalta in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea with Drs. Carleen R. Graham, Kirk A. Severtson, and Francois Germain. He was also featured in the groundbreaking, Neglected Nationalism: An Evening of Negro Spirituals ,with Dr. Lonel Woods and resident vocal artists of The Crane School of Music.
In recent years, he has performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, Chorus and Chamber Singers, the Amherst Symphony Orchestra with Steven Thomas, the Amherst Bel Canto Choir with Sue Fay Allen, the Canisius College Chorale with Frank Scinta, the Villa Maria College Chamber Choir with James D. Flood and the Crane Concert Choir under the auspices of Drs. R. R. Reames and Lonel Woods.
Mr. Thomas has had the fortune of working with a plethora of artists and scholars including: Peter Gonciarz, Laura Osgood, Donald Borsh, Lorraine Yaros-Sullivan, Deborah Massell, Donald George, Boris Loushin, Eugenia Tsarov, David Pittman-Jennings, Jonathan Stinson, David Heinick, Rosemarie Suniga, Jeffrey Francom, Heather Erin Eyerly, Adrienne Gryta, Dr. Sylvia Grmela, SM Barbara Amrozowicz, Carmen Jude Aquila, Daniel J. Bara, Deanna Joseph, John Kramar, Eric Stellrecht, Kirk Dougherty and, Erica Washburn just to name a few...
His concert and recital repertoire includes works by Dowland, Purcell, Handel, Gluck, Quilter, Niles, Forrest, Stainer, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Schumann, R. Strauss, Weckerlin, Faure, Chausson, Donaudy, Giordani, Stradella, Glinka, Burleigh and, Hogan.
He began his classical studies with Frank Scinta and George Davis at the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts and received a Regents Diploma in Vocal Music in 2008. Studies continued with Professor Barbara A. Cooper-Helfrich at the Villa Maria College of Buffalo, where Mr. Thomas received an Associate in Science degree in 2011. He currently studies with Professor David Pittman - Jennings of The Crane School of Music at The State University of New York at Potsdam.
