Steven Harts is just getting started!In a musical career that has spanned over two decades, Steven Harts started his professional musical journey as one of thelead men for the 90's platinum-selling group Troop. Steven has remained relevant and in demand from today'smusic industry elite to budding new artist by creating and taking part inremarkable hit records such as JordinSparks’ Grammy nominated "No Air", Chris Brown's Grammy nominated "Take You Down”, and 2009 Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson'sdebut CD titled "JenniferHudson". Singer, songwriter, producer and vocal arranger, Steven Harts has personified theessence of song making and has spawned hits that will continue to influencegenerations to come.
Steve was born in Hartford, Connecticutas Steven Russell and raised in Pasadena, California. As a teen, Steven would spend countless hours infront of the television watching and mocking the musical and dance styling ofhis most admired artist - Michael Jackson. Having aspirations ofbeing the next phenomenon, Stevenwould wow crowds at Los Angele's renowned Venice Beach by displaying hisundeniable talents of singing and dancing. Often drawing crowds of hundreds to watch him perform, Steven predicted that by the time hewas 18 he would have a #1 record playing on the radio. Well, Steven would fulfill his prophecy farbeyond his expectations by winning a talent show with childhood friends Allen McNeil, Rodney Benford, John Harreldand Reggie Warren that sparked interest from major record labels. Signing to Atlantic Records, these childhoodfriends from Pasadena would be known to the world as Troop. Troop releasedtheir debut single, "Mamacita", from their self-titled debut album in 1988that reached #2 on Billboard's R&Bcharts. After the release of their debut album, Troop released "Attitude"in 1990, which included such hit songs as "Spread My Wings" and the Jackson 5 cover of "All I Do is Think of You",which were both #1 on the BillboardR&B charts and remained in the top 10 on the charts for several weeks.At the height of Troop's success,the group appeared in the 1991 urban classic film New Jack City harmonizing their rendition of the O'Jays, "For the Love of Money/Living for the City". Following astream of hits and an enormous fan base, Troopreleased "Deepa" in 1992and remained consistent with yet another #1single, "Sweet November", on the Billboard R&B charts. Two more albums would follow... "ALil Sumpin' Sumpin'" in 1994 and "Mayday"in 1998 which both received rave reviews.
Afterreleasing "Mayday" in1998, Troop took a hiatus and Steven began to redirect his focus onsongwriting and producing. Acquiring much experience writing and producing withthe likes of Babyface, Chuckii Booker and Gerald
Levert while recording with Troop, as well as singing backgroundvocals for Babyface's "TenderLover" album as well as KeithSweat's "Merry Go
Round", Steven began what would be a long productive relationship with theLos Angeles based production team TheUnderdogs.
Asone of the main writers and producers for TheUnderdogs, Steven would write
andproduce hit songs for artist like:,Aretha Franklin, Kelly Clarkson, Charlie Wilson, Jordin Sparks, Tyrese, RubenStuddard, Fantasia, Mario, Omarion, B2K, Joe, Tank, Katherine McPhee. TheUnderdogs, along with Steve,undertook the task of being the sole production team to produce the soundtrackfor the 2006 film adaptation of Dreamgirls,which Steven also had a cameoappearance in, as well as a song placement “A Perfect World". Proving he still had the ability to swoon audiences as hedid with leading songs with Trooplike "All I Do Is Think ofYou" and "SweetNovember", Steven continuesto reincarnate and refine his talents.
Notonly has Steven proven to be one oftoday's most prolific lyrical wordsmith's, he has also established himself asone of R&B and Pop music's most sought after producers. Steven's success as a producer can beattributed to creating hits that aresimple but heartfelt, relatable yet wishful, sweet and sincere.
Aftercompleting a very successful and highly regarded tenure with The Underdogs, Steven is stepping outon his own to continue writing and producing timeless music. Establishing hisown production company, The Motel MusicMedia, industry leaders are still relying and calling upon Steven to write and produce for currentprojects such as: Toni Braxton, Elliot Yamin, NBA player Lebron James recently released film - "More Than A Game", David Archuletta, Tank and Chanj. Not onlyis Steve remaining busy with thesegreatly anticipated projects, he currently has production and writing creditfor seven songs on Charlie Wilson'slatest CD “Uncle Charlie”, which hasbeen nominated for a 2010 Grammy forBest Contemporary R&B album.
Writingand producing hits for the industry’s finest for more than 15 years, Steve will release his highlyanticipated solo project titled “SoRandom” March 2010. “So Random” will include collaborationswith legendary producer Chuckii Booker,James Fauntleroy, Harvey Mason Jr., LukeBoyd and The Runners. ThisR&B masterpiece will soothe the soul, inspire love and make you feel again!The first single, “Bring It Back”,which is co-written with Kandi Burrussof Xscape and star of Housewives of Atlanta, is currentlygaining momentum across the nation, impacting radio and is on the fast track tobecoming yet another hit for Steven.
After20 years and counting in the music industry, Steve Russell has maintained his status as one of the industry's mostrelevant and hit making sources.
