Bub says "The legend of Spot began around late 95.
I had just come out of a very drunken year with my former band The Lost Boys and was ready to embark on a new project. I had always been just a vocalist in my former projects but longed not to play the guitar but to unleash my songwritting onto an unsuspecting scene. Big Mike was in from the start, a partner in crime from the very beginning and we soon recruited local nutter Phipps on the bass. The early days where spent rehearsing my songs on broken equipment in the house of local muscle metal band The Enchanted until we where ready to begin performing in February 96. I'll never forget the first gig when after sound check I was convinced we sounded so bad I downed 4 cans of Special Brew to get over my nerves. Needless to say the gig was awesome and spot was truly born.
The next few years where spent perfecting our brand of pop rock to drink to, and our popularity and reputation for quirky simple singalong fun was growing all the time. On the very last day of the Oval Rockhouse, the legendary Gav Thomas was asked to join on a trial basis. A trial that we all new was a formality, we had been eyeing him up for months and when he became available it was a no brainer. The band rocked on harder than ever until sadly Phipps called it a day, ultimately our despair was short lived when Chris Brown joined and brought his fantastic backing vocals to an already growing collection of anthems. We continued to enjoy our most popular period playing many packed gigs at venues such as Fat Paulys and releasing CD collections of our many tunes.
In around 2000 Big Mike left to concentrate on wrestling and Jamie (known as The Janitor!) was brought in on drums. This marked the most exciting period of the band with manager Rod and record deal lined up, unfortunately this also marked the beginning of the end. It became obvious that the record company was making promises it couldn't keep and the band became disillusioned until eventually Jamie felt he had to leave. The band continued for a few more months with Ollie Mills on drums but the writing was on the wall.
In 2004 SPOT reformed with a new line up and a more pop punk direction. This line up included Big Mike on drums, Chris switched to guitar, and Ollie Mills switched to bass. This was a fantastic but very different chapter of the band. We probably went through are biggest party and debauchery faze at this time, played some fantastic shows and sold more CDs of awesome new songs to a whole new audience. Alas when Ollie decided he wanted to travel the world in 2006 I knew the party was over and sadly let SPOT finally die........Or did I?"
Cue September 2013, and Erin Rockowitch got in contact Big Mike and Bub to do a secret SPOT set at The Oval Rockhouse Reunion, which was being staged at Epic in Norwich. Mike then got in touch with Gav and original bassist Phipps and the plan was hatched to come on in the middle of Bub and Mike's current band Kamikaze Radio's set to rock out the old SPOT numbers. No one could believe the reception that SPOT received and they were welcomed back on stage like returning heroes.
Gav says "Playing those 5 songs in front of 600+ people at The Oval re-union was an awesome privilege and we had such a wicked time that it felt right to have a dedicated SPOT show for everyone that has missed us over the years. So I got in touch with my friends at Wolves In Wolves Clothing, who put on killer shows to see if we could get something very special put together. So ladies & gentlemen, for ONE NIGHT ONLY - SPOT return for a full set, with Phipps and Chris sharing bass duties, Jamie's gonna come up and drum a couple of songs and we're gonna have ONE HELL OF A PARTY!! Wednesday December 11th 2013, stick it in your diary, this one's for you."
