Alterna-metallers Spider Virus hail from the country music capital of the world, Nashville.
Lead singer/guitarist Jerry Campbell and drummer Tracy Coss had been jamming together since their junior high school days, but didn't achieve the sound they were searching for until bassist Eric Reed came aboard in 1993. For the next two years, the band practiced, honed their songwriting through several demo tapes, and toured the South incessantly. Second guitarist Hunt Adams joined the band in 1995, helping to make their sound even heavier, while the group released several singles soon after. One of these singles caught the ear of notorious producer Steve Albini (Nirvana, Jesus Lizard, Plant & Page, etc.), and in November 1996, the band signed a deal with Ng records. When work began on their debut with Albini aboard as producer, Freddy Mantis replaced Adams on guitar. The self-titled debut full-length was released in 1997, with the group appearing as part of the summer festival Warped Tour. Radio Invaders, issued in spring 2001, was the band's first release of the new millennium. ~ Greg Prato
