Speed Caravan is an ethnic fusion collaboration featuring Frenchmen Mehdi Haddab and Pascal Teillet that made its album debut in 2008.
Founded by Haddab (an Algerian-born oud player whose credits include the bands Ekova and DuOud) and Teillet (also known as Pasco, a bassist whose credits include collaborations with Rodolphe Burger, Erik Marchand, and Rachid Taha, among others), Speed Caravan also features Hermione Frank (electronics), Mohamed Bouamar (percussion, vocals), Rocky Singh (vocals), and others. In association with Newbled Records, Speed Caravan made its full-length album debut in 2008 with Kalashnik Love. Produced by David Husser and stylistically rooted in electro-rock as well as ethnic fusion, Kalashnik Love features a mix of original material, Algerian traditionals, and cover songs, most notably a cover of the Cure's "Killing an Arab." ~ Jason Birchmeier
