Originally a duo formed in the summer of 2001, Sons of Alpha Centauriare an avant-garde post-metal group based in the Thames Gateway Swale area of London.
Founding members Nick Hannon (bass) and Marlon King (guitar) conceived the instrumental project and wrote a large number of tracks together before the decision was made to expand the roster, with the pair asking Stevie B. to take on drumming duties and inviting Andrew Blake to add "textures and ambience" to the group's sound. The band has also been a rather inclusive project, working and collaborating with a handful of outsiders, including a 2005 project with Australian artist Seldon Hunt. A demo was recorded and saw (very limited) release in 2004, but it was not until 2007 that the band would issue its first album, entitled Sons of Alpha Centauri (released on Sound Devastation Records). Last Day of Summer (on UnderDogma Records) followed in 2009, as did Ceremony to the Sunset, a release by the collaborative project Yawning Sons, which features the Sons of Alpha Centauri's King, Hannon, and Stevie B. along with guitarist Gary Arce and others - by Chris True.
