For the last five years, Amy Altstatt has reveled in the meaningful moments of her life in which she has discovered beauty, and trying to interact with that beauty by offering colorful and playful pieces, rich in texture.
An idea of nature imitating nature, has been the inspiration in her artwork since childhood. This idea has perpetuated an inspiration to stay alert to nature imitating itself, predominantly trees that look like human figures, or vice versa. The longevity of the fascination has brought a personal sense of nostalgia to her work, motivating the resurfacing of childhood fascinations.

Amy grew up sewing and crafting needlework with her mother, long before realizing its potential and the impact it would have on her vision. Experimenting with embroidery and other textures such as paper and fabric has engaged her in a meditative process that creates a more intimate and interactive experience to the artwork. She has embroidered her inspired images on fabric, painted canvases and is now “painting with thread” on repurposed materials such as fireplace screens.

Her work is inspired by the always-accessible fond memories, childhood obsessions, soul-resonating beauty, prayer, and her own writing, seeking to capture the essence of the written word or note that strikes the cord within the soul as being familiar or motivating.
