Seamus Kenney (vocals/accordion), Mark Daumen (tuba/vocals), Matthew Vooris (drums), and Matthew Kenney (trumpet) craft the quirky cool sounds of SNMNMNM.
The fearsome foursome came together in 1997 while attending the Eastman School of Music in upstate New York. There, the brothers Kenney, Daumen, and Vooris were earning degrees in music while sharing their one of a kind sense of humor at a local open-mike night. Their oddly alluring mix of brass and electronics eventually led to the homemade recording of SNMNMNM's self-titled debut, otherwise known as "the Red Album." SNMNMNM toured in support of their first album and eventually landed themselves a new home in Los Angeles. The band with the tuba was gaining ground in the indie rock scene, and by 2002 SNMNMNM issued its Asbestos Weekend EP on Skunk Ape. A year later, the band landed a deal with International Cork and released Power Pack Horse Crunch, which was named in honor of an old-fashioned feed bag found on the floor in Johnny Cash's barn by SNMNMNM producer Loney John Hutchins' father. ~ MacKenzie Wilson
