Slingshot Dakota are a keyboard-and-drum indie rock duo from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania consisting of Carly Comando and Tom Patterson.
Known for their high-energy, emotive style and interweaving male/female harmonies, the group has been compared to similarly outfitted duos like Matt and Kim and Mates of State. Comando initially formed the band in 2004 with Pat Schramm and Jeff Cunningham from the pop-punk group Latterman. Following their debut album, Keener Sighs, both Schramm and Cunningham left the group, after which Comando reworked Slingshot Dakota as a duo with Patterson joining on drums and vocals. Their 2007 LP Their Dreams Are Dead, But Ours Is the Golden Ghost! laid out their distinctive style, which features Comando running her digital piano through myriad effects to create their powerful sound. In 2012, they made their Topshelf Recordings debut with the album Dark Hearts. Break, their fourth album together, arrived in early 2016. ~ Timothy Monger
