A multi-instrumentalist singer and songwriter of Malaysian descent, Shelley Leong was part of a burgeoning independent music scene in her home country.
Quickly earning plaudits from the mainstream -- she was nominated for a Best New Artist award in 2005 -- Leong won herself a scholarship from the well-known and respected Berklee College of Music in 2005. After graduating, she kept her career going in two places at once -- Kuala Lumpur and her new adopted residence of San Francisco -- and released her debut album, Storyteller, soon after. In 2007, Leong received further accolades when she won an honorable mention award at the Billboard World Songwriting Contest in 2007. ~ Chris True
