Here is an image I took last fall at Mono Lake, California. The image displays a bright moonrise over the Tufas. Tufas are limestone columns, formed from chemical reactions of calcium and carbonates around the body of water. The Tufa towers are really beautiful, some can even form higher than 30 feet tall. I have mixed feelings about the contrails in the frame. I think they add a certain interest in the sky, however, they slightly reduce the natural quality of the image. I had a lot of fun shooting at Mono Lake, I will be heading back there to shoot more Milky Way images and Timelapse. If you enjoy the image please share it with your friends. "Vivid Milky Way Over The Santa Lucia Range"We went camping in Big Sur a few weeks ago and drove up Nacimiento-Fergusson Road about 3000 feet above sea level to get above the heavy marine layer. I was only able to shoot off a few frames before the fog engulfed us, this is one of those frames. The large mountain range spanning from San Luis Obispo all the way to Monterey County is called the Santa Lucia Range. The stunning range parallels the Big Sur Coastline. EXIF: 30SEC F/2.8 ISO3200Canon 5D3 Rokinon 14MMPlease share and to see more visit www.shainblumphoto.com[www.facebook.com/shainblumhttps://www.facebook.com/shainblumphoto#astrophotography|mysp.ac/1CWh] #photography #milkyway #galaxy #starrynights #astronomy #bigsur

"Beauty and the Beast" One of the most impressive Bristlecones located in Patriarch Grove, which is deep within the White Mountains CA. There is a very strange and scary beauty to this tree. It looks like it could be a thing of nightmares. Watching the Milky Way behind the incredible silhouette was amazing, even more impressive then shown through the photograph. Now obviously we can not see the milky way quite as good in person. However that night was one of the brightest night skies I have ever seen. "Glacier Point Intensity"Its going to be hard to believe. But this sunset taken at Glacier Point in Yosemite has not been saturated. The color literally came out this intense in camera. I used the 70-200 to zoom in close to this mountain range and capture the epic clouds above. This was some of the best light I have seen in California, the best part is... this frame was taken from a timelapse EXIF: 1/6 SEC F/6.3 ISO100Please share and visit [www.shainblumphoto.com|mysp.ac/O0I] for more

"Who Needs TV?" Who honestly needs to watch trashy television programs or garbage commercials and advertisements, when right out our doorsteps are some of the most incredible viewing experiences, (I'm not just talking about the Milky Way.) There is so much to see in our world. Get out there and explore your national parks and wildlife areas and see what interesting things you can find! "Milky Way In Big Sur"I love taking pictures of the Milky Way and I also love taking pictures of fog. So naturally I really love taking pictures of the Milky Way above fog, in one single shot. Me and my buddies went out to Big Sur for some astrophotography. However the marine layer came in and made it impossible to see stars at sea level. We decided to head 4000 feet up the coastal mountains to make camp and get above the thick fog. About 5 mins after taking this photograph the fog reached our elevation and washed out all visibility of the stars. I am thankful to have gotten this one frame from that night. Please share the image if you enjoy itEXIF: 30SEC F/2.8 ISO3200Canon5D3 Rokinon 14mmSee more at [www.milkywayphotos.com|mysp.ac/5ng]

"Infinity" I went with a more simple approach to this image. I wanted to show the galaxy and the whole range of the sky with no obstructions. This image was taken at Patriarch Grove in the White Mountains CA. These are some of the clearest skies I have ever seen, the green in the sky is caused by airglow. The panorama is 13 images stitched together to get the extremely wide perspective.Sharing is appreciated EXIF: 30SEC F/2.8 ISO3200Canon 5D3, Sigma 20mmSee more @ [www.milkywayphotos.com|mysp.ac/5ng]

"Pacific Milky Way" The Milky Way shining bright over the Pacific Ocean. This shot was taken at the southern edge of the Big Sur Coastline. We took a camping trip out there to capture astrophotography, however we got locked into heavy cloud coverage. The last 2 days were a constant struggle to fine clear skies. We found this one gap in between the skies looking south west and decided to stop for some photos. One of my favorite characteristics of the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in the White Mountains CA is the very noticeable white rocks surrounding the area. The rocks are so bright that even under a moonless night sky, you can still walk around and see without a headlamp. The starlight and atmospheric glow shines on these white rocks illuminating the entire area. This location is among one of my favorite places I have ever been to.The image is one exposure, minimal post processing to achieve nice contrast in the milky way and color corrections to minimize the extremely green airglow in the sky. I really hope you enjoy viewing the image as much as I did shooting it.
