Bassist, Songwriter - Steve Carey has been playing music in the Washington, DC area for over 40 years.
Born, raised and still living in Maryland, Steve started playing guitar at 11 and had switched to bass by age 12. His first gigs were playing local teen clubs with the "Unknown Kind" in the 60's. After jamming around town with some local players as the band T-Bone, Steve then helped form and played with the Open Road Band over a great 19 year run, playing the metro DC music scene at popular venues like the Bayou, Crazyhorse, the Wax Museum, Wild West, and Louie's Rock City to name a few.

By the mid 90's Steve hooked up with harmonica player and old friend Bill Jasper to form Big Bill and That's Cool. They played for 10 years and recorded an album of original blues together.

In 2005 Steve began attending some of the local blues jams. This is how he met and started playing with guitarist Paul Mastradone and drummer Chip Clemmer in the Paulverizers.

Some of his work during this time was also spent recording bass tracks for StradBoLand a local original band. StradBoLand included longtime friend guitarist Mark Land from the Open Road Band.

It was also at the blues jams with Chip and Paul that Steve met singer/songwriter Joy Bodycomb. In 2007 Joy recruited Steve to play on a gig and about a year later along with drummer Chip Clemmer and guitarist Dave Long they formed the Joy Bodycomb Band now known as Joy B Band.

Joy B Band has just released their debut album JUST LIVIN' and 2 of the songs the first and last tracks on the album were both written by Steve. Steve was also one of the producers of this Amazing debut CD. (to purchase visit www.joybband.com or cdbaby).

Along with the Joy B Band, Steve has played with the Paulverizers, Steve Smith and the Meteors, Scott Raminger and the Crawstickers, the Swampkeepers, Bad Influence, the Andy Poxon Band and as house bass player during some the area's jam sessions.

One of the highlights of Steve's musical journey was recording some tracks at SirusXM Radio's recording studio for Shane Dwight in 2011.

Steve plays Fender basses and Ampeg amps.
