Felix was inspired to play the saxx after hearing his cousin perform on a tenor saxx at his mother's wedding ceremony.
Under the tutelage of Mr. Oscar Jackson and Mr. Gerald Vickers, Felix excelled through the ranks. At the end of his high school tenure he was involved in several different bands ranging from the prestigious Southwest Marching Patriots (Macon, GA.) to the Concert and Cadet bands. During his senior year at Southwest, Florida A&M University and Morris Brown College recruiting officers visited the high school and offered select senior students scholarships. Plans for a military career did not pan out. So Felix took a partial scholarship to Florida A&M University "FAMU". Felix transferred to Morris Brown College after freshman year and continued his musical education under the watchful eye of Professor Cleophus Johnson. Felix excelled and almost instantly became freshman section leader and later section leader. During his tenure at Morris Brown, Felix met a trumpet player who matched his skills, passion, and enthusiasm for music, Bobbidee Blasingame. The two men developed a friendship and begin to perform together. Felix was soon after extended an invitation to perform at Tabernacle Baptist Church (Atlanta, GA.) with the "horn section."
Although Felix soon after moved back to Macon, GA. he continued to stay in touch. While in Macon, he met a beautiful young woman by the name of Beverly Thomas and not long after married her. Felix also at the same time begin to flourish as a soloist. It was in Macon that he received his called into the ministry and was ordained as a deacon and later licensed teacher of the Word of God. During this time in his life, he performed a number of duties at the local church he attended "Restoration Christian Center" where he was appointed the Sunday School Superintendent by the pastor and co-pastor of the ministry James and Faye Cotton, who were also his uncle and aunt. He was also the Adult Sunday School teacher as well as an active member of the finance committee. Through the careful guidance of his uncle James Cotton, Felix would begin to accompany some of Macon's finest Gospel musicians.Terrence Cotton and Testimony were a Macon favorite during this time and also Terrence "Terry" was Felix's cousin and inspiration. Terrence extended Felix the opportunity to perform with the group as the saxophonist and secondary drummer. The two would collaborate on many concerts together with other groups throughout the central Georgia area. Felix participated in many gospel concerts and soon began staging concerts of his own. As a featured soloist, he developed an urban/hip hop style all his own. Felix would be invited to participate on many different church events from concerts to Christmas musicals throughout Macon and the middle Georgia area. Felix's main musical inspirations are Allen & Allen, Ben Tankard, Hezekiah Walker, John P. Kee, Gospel Gangstaz, The Cross Movement, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, Carmen, Canton Jones as well as the Gap Band, Teddy Riley, Heavy D,, Run DMC ,Usher, R. Kelly, and the list goes on and on. As a third generation Gospel musician, Felix participated in his family's first CD project "100% Cotton" which was recorded in the year 2000.
After moving to the metro Atlanta city of Jonesboro in the winter of 2005, Felix attended Second Mount Vernon Baptist Church (2MV) under the leadership of Senior Pastor William Holmes Robinson and then minister of music Nathan Grigsby. Along with Erroyl and Bobbidee and the founding members of the Gospel/Jazz instrumental band Psalms 150, Felix continued to flourish as a musician and soloist. Felix now resides in the north Metro Atlanta suburb of Flowery Branch, GA. Felix continues to be surrounded by a group of talented musicians with a passion and a love of music. Felix is also currently establishing a collaboration with E-Major's & Psalms 150 founder, Dr. Erroyl McGinty Jr. Erroyl's musical and personal accomplishments are an inspiration and testimony to Felix. Felix & Erroyl are currently working on a project that will kick start their dream of a multi-talented production company that will keep them busy throughout this new millennium.
