This spring, NYC based indie vocalist, Sara Nelms is releasing her much anticipated first full length record.
Critic Justin Kreitzer says, “classically trained, her versatile acoustic-based sound is fluid enough to slide between intimate coffee shops and club stages with full band arrangements without losing any of the passion in translation.” Also, “she possesses one heck of a beautiful voice. And with the understated yet infectious country-leaning folk-pop melodies and captivating songwriting on her exceptional new album, Lover, No Longer; singer-songwriter Sara Nelms should attract the type of national attention that she deserves”.

Coming from the land of sunshine, Sara was fortunate to grow up in a family who was uncommonly nurturing to her artistic leanings. Her family was, and still is, very close and very musical. Growing up in Florida and always mesmerized by vocalists like Barbra Streisand, Martina McBride, Dolly Parton, Alanis Morissette, The Cranberries, Dixie Chicks and countless others, Sara first became involved in musical theater and jazz music. She went on to study classical voice at Florida State University before changing directions and moving to Nashville.

During her time in Tennessee, in the endless sea of talented musicians, Sara learned the art and the love of songwriting. She sang in the honky tonks on Broadway, including the legendary Tootsies, sang backup in bands, recorded, and fronted her own band. It was a time of youthful exploration even in such a historically rich music scene.

Just before leaving Nashville, growing tired of always having to rely on other people to accompany her, Sara decided that time was well over due to learn to play the guitar. Focusing on learning guitar and getting past the hours of pain she began to fully incorporate playing for herself. This newfound freedom combined with a temporary return to her Florida roots, inspired an entirely new set of music. Every song on Lover, No Longer, came from this time period. The album was recorded in the Spirit Ranch Recording Studio in Sarasota, Florida.

Sara’s sound combines the control and melodic power of her classical training, melancholy of lost loves, the southern stylings from a lifetime love affair with country music, and the grit and truth found in her current home in New York City. All of this, still leaving you with the hope of a positive outcome in things to come. Her new album, Lover, No Longer captures this spirit completely, through woven tales of love, loss, heartache, and hope. “With her individual vocal delivery and strong songwriting, Nelms isn’t trying to be anyone else, and why should she be? Lover, No Longer is an extremely consistent effort and if this is anything to judge by, then it certainly looks like a long career is ahead of Sara Nelms.”- Ross Barber

When she is not writing and working on music, Sara is usually exploring , traveling, spending time with family, doing yoga, hiking whenever possible, and enjoying chocolate, coffee, wines, and health foods.

Lover, No Longer will be released on May 21, 2013. Sara is currently planning a tour for August.
