Blues-rock singer/songwriter Saint Lu was born Luise Gruber on June 27, 1982 in Wels, Austria.
After finishing school, she lived for a time in America before returning to her home country, where she attended drama school and took part in the ORF talent show Starmania, but was knocked out early in competition. Her debut single, "One Step Closer," was released in 2005 under the name Luise, and her debut album proper as Saint Lu in 2009. Partly recorded at Abbey Road Studios and produced by Patrik Majer (Wir Sind Helden, Tele), the album made it to number 30 in the Austrian charts and contained the singles "Don't Miss Your Own Life," "Here I Stand," and "Rockstar Car." A second album, the unimaginatively titled 2, was released in 2013 and saw her moving in a more soul-oriented direction. ~ John D. Buchanan
