Combining old-school grooves with some post-R.
Kelly audaciousness, the R&B trio Rydaznrtist arrived on the scene in 2010 with songs like "Sorry Ass Apology” and “Climax Instructions.” Hailing from North Carolina and Detroit, the group formed in 2008 when producer Kevin Writer began working with singer Reuben. The lineup was set when rapper GQ Ryda joined later in the year, and it wasn’t long before they were signed to Nick Cannon's NCredible Entertainment label and agency. In mid-2009 they released the Strip Club Music mixtape, which featured the first appearance of the underground hit “Sorry Ass Apology” along with the club track “Best Night.” Late in 2009 a second mixtape, Sunday Music, arrived and then, in early 2010, they landed the opening slot on the Angels Advocate Tour with Trey Songz and Mariah Carey. After the tour they signed to the Def Jam label, which would immediately give their “Sorry Ass Apology” single an aboveground release. ~ David Jeffries
