Hailing from Huntington Hills, Long Island, NY, keyboardist Russ Irwin came to the attention of Charles Koppelman, who signed him to his SBK Records.
In the fall of 1991, Irwin released a self-titled debut, showcasing his singer/songwriter tendencies. While not making much of an impact, either commercially or critically, it did yield a hit in the ballad "My Heart Belongs to You," which climbed into the Top 40. Although Irwin wouldn't release another record of his own during the decade, he spent a lot of time playing on other projects. For a period of time, Irwin played with ex-Tears for Fears member Curt Smith in the lineup for Mayfield, appearing on their eponymous 1998 release. Irwin also did roadwork, most notably with Aerosmith and Sting, at the end of the decade. ~ Tom Demalon
