Somewhere between the cassette goth of Vex Ruffin and the chillwave of Ariel Pink stands Chicago's Rollin Hunt.
As a multimedia professional working a day job as a production designer, the eccentric artist created material in his bedroom in his down time, sometimes forgoing a four-track to record directly to an answering machine. Perfectly falling in line with the lo-fi craze, his tapes became well liked in underground circles. Enough so, that it led to a tribute album by Grayscale Recordings, which was titled Him Who Is There. As his cult status rose in 2013, at age 27, Hunt signed to Moniker Records for his first digitally recorded release The Phoney. ~ Jason Lymangrover
