b. Janina Irizarry, 4 August 1983, San Germán, Puerto Rico.
This Latin pop singer rose to fame in her native Puerto Rico as the debut season winner of the reality television show Objetivo Fama. First screened in 2004 on the Univisión Puerto Rico channel and licensed to the Telefutura network in the USA, the show attracted large audiences throughout Latin America and it was a given that the winner would enjoy commercial success. As a result of her triumph, Irizarry secured a recording contract with the Univision Music Group and saw her debut, Todo De Mí, soar to the top of the Puerto Rican charts. The album also spawned the hit singles ‘Porque Tu No Estas’ and ‘No Me Arrepiento’ and featured a track written by fellow contestant Kany García. The swiftly released follow-up, Contra La Corriente, repeated the formula, with established songwriters providing a succession of pleasant Latin pop tracks that faded from the memory as soon as the record had finished playing.
