Hello everyone, I am wondering how to get my songs heard by as many people as possible and also I would like to form a band to play original songs.
I am very experienced guitarist and vocalist having travelled the world as a professional musician, I worked on the cruise ships with P&O for 5 years and a brief stint on Fred Olsen, I toured Denmark 3 times with the Cirkus Benneweis Orchesta. I have done all the usual corporate events with various function and tribute bands, I read written music as this is an important requirement of working on the ships or in the theatre, I even played Wembley stadium the night Roger Waters recently performed The Wall, in a function room with a Pink Floyd tribute band, not quite the main stadium but never mind, I have always wanted to play those songs. Also the usual pub and club gigs and some summer seasons on holiday camps. I have a set of covers that I play either with a band or on my own with an acoustic guitar. I am a versatile guitarist and can cope with almost anything, I also sing and harmonize very well.

The songs recorded as demos on here are all my own compositions, music and lyrics. They are basic recordings but I think they show the potential of the music, please have a listen and I hope you like them.

I would very much like to form a band to perform these songs and to collaborate with other creative musicians.

I am looking for good musicians but also people who are easy to work with and are driven towards getting the most from the music and not personal agendas, I have yet to meet people like this and at my apparently ancient age group (48 shock, horror) it is looking increasingly bleak. I am proud of the songs I have written and these demos are a fair representation, they are very basic having been recorded at a friends studio in return for session work and in a very short space of time, the videos are like wise done on my mac book at no expense. I have received praise for my songs from non musicians mainly, someone even going as far as to say that "I know its a lot to ask" is one of his favourite songs. This is very flattering and encouraging, other "musos" have reacted with an almost hysterical, spiteful and patronizing dismissal, as I know not everyone will like what I do, I also know that such reactions are not normal.

The music industry seems to be in a shocking condition at the moment, there has always been bitchy rivalry but it seems to be worse than ever now its hard even just to get a lousy pub gig, I suspect because of open mic nights, landlords are getting free entertainment, even if its shit, its still free.

I have an aversion to sticking to one genre, I have been criticized on this issue and I understand the point made, however this is what I do and it is not contrived in any way, my cd collection is not all one thing so why should my music be? Anyway, you can see I am a little frustrated with the music business, it is I am afraid a very dysfunctional business, filled with people with hidden agendas, overblown egos and some really nasty characters.

I started this because I love music, not because I want to be famous or rich ( of course we all want to be successful at what we do) or get girls, naïve as it may sound, all I want to do is to make great music that will move people and to be recognized as a songwriter and musician.

As with our society, it is almost impossible to be upwardly mobile these days, gone are the days when working class guys formed bands and worked there way up to the big time. Mainstream pop is formed by corporations from the top and filters its way down to the public, which is why most of it is bland, generic and sentimental. I thought with the advent of the internet it would make life easier, it seems harder than ever to get anything off the ground now, maybe this is because the market is flooded. I would love to form a band of guys who are grown ups, love what they do and I can work with. The business is so ageist now and I believe this is eroding creativity, just to get in the band at Butlins you have to be under 25.

I am going to re record these songs as some point with a real band, as opposed to playing everything on them myself, I am a high standard guitarist (even though I do say so myself) but I would prefer musicians who know their instruments for the other parts. Also just to get a better groove etc, I am pleased with the bass lines I have come up with but a real bassist could give it more feel.

But, still, the demos are all pretty good I think and I hope you will like them too.

Many thanks Terry
