Compiling references from styles as different as soul, alternative pop/rock, or blues, Purusa create single fusion style compositions, subliming their better sense of melody.
Vocalist Kris Kirkman and guitarist Zach Hinkelman founded Purusa in late 1999, in Portland, OR. The duo chose its singular designation inspired by Hindu sacred texts on which purusa means both soul and man. Embarking on an enrapturing creative understanding after they first met, the duo rapidly created a series of songs. Purusa's lineup was later finished when bassist Greg Jackson, keyboardist Josh Nichols, and drummer Andrew Marshall, formerly a member of Six Foot Sam, joined the band. After constantly rehearsing for several months, the band recorded what turned out to be their debut disc, the EP 101. Receiving considerable praise from the media, the Portland team gained ample airplay on local radio stations, securing an always-larger fan base. ~ Mario Mesquita Borges
