With frenetic, oddball pop songs like “Ballad of Sayid Jarrah” and “The Island Won’t Let You Die,” Previously on Lost rose to prominence by composing musical recaps of the ABC television show Lost.
The group was formed in 2007 by Adam Schatz and Jeff Curtin, two Brooklyn-based musicians with an ear for melody and an attraction to all things eccentric. The two first met while working on Champollion, a space opera/ballet inspired by the teachings of Carl Sagan, and chose to continue their partnership as the co-founders of Previously on Lost, a seven-piece band whose music recounted the show’s knotty plot lines. Boasting a zany sound that evoked the Flaming Lips, Frank Zappa, and cartoon soundtracks, Previously on Lost became a hit with the show’s dedicated fan base, resulting in several sold-out shows in New York City and a good deal of media attention. ~ Andrew Leahey
