The Prayers & Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers was a stage name adopted by indie pop artist Perry Wright in 2003.
The name was taken from the Coen Brothers film The Big Lebowski, and was originally intended as the title for a concept album based on an iron lung-bound character in that film. That endeavor was quickly abandoned, however, and Wright instead gathered up his folky, introspective recordings under the title Psalterie. Aided by like-minded musicians Alex Lazara, David Karsten Daniels, and Joshua Snyder, Wright recorded his second release, The Mother of Love Emulates the Shapes of Cynthia, the following year. The album came out in 2005, spawning what would become Wright's trademark single, "Lisa." The odds-and-sods Redux EP followed in 2006, and Wright busied himself with the second Prayers & Tears album, which was slated for release in 2007. ~ Margaret Reges
