Phil Madeira is a multi-instrumentalist and producer who has spent more than 20 years contributing to the recordings of artists such as Amy Grant, Alison Krauss, Vanessa Williams, Keb' Mo', Julie Miller, Mark Heard, and Phil Keaggy, among others.
He is also a singer/songwriter and has put out several solo albums. The New Hampshire native attended Taylor University in Indiana, where he studied art. Both of his parents were musically inclined. During his childhood and youth, Madeira played the drums. In later years he picked up the keyboard and guitar. His first career stop was a stint with a Chicago-based country-rock outfit named Morninglory. He played piano and drums, and contributed vocals. He moved on to Indiana country band Hickory Wind. He moved to Nashville in 1983, where he quickly became a successful session musician and songwriter. He released Citizen of Heaven on Refuge Records in 1986. In 1996, Madeira put out the independently released Off Kilter, on which he was responsible for almost every instrument. He resides in Barrington, RI, with his wife and two children. ~ Linda Seida
