Montreal-based artist/”bouzouki playing, electro-acoustic, psych-folk minstrel” Peter Nevins relocated to Quebec, Canada in the late 2000s after establishing himself as a notable New York City graphic designer.
The northern California native spent three years in the East Village honing his musical craft and designing merchandise for the likes of Gillian Welch, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Josh Ritter before heading north, where he proceeded to self-release his debut album, Take That, Vile Scum!, followed by the EP I May Be Going Down in Flames, But at Least I'm on Fire. Cut from the same cloth as modern-day troubadours like Espers, Devendra Banhart, Sufjan Stevens, and Stephin Merritt, Nevins crafts hallucinatory, ornate, modern folk music that also owes a tip of the hat to British folk luminaries like Incredible String Band, Steve Ashley, and Pentangle. ~ James Christopher Monger
