This excellent US pop/harmony act was ostensibly a studio group based around songwriter/producer Jerry Riopelle.
Having established his reputation with Ramona King’s original version of ‘The Shoop Shoop Song (It’s In His Kiss)’, Riopelle enjoyed a brief association with Phil Spector, before pursuing his backroom career with Nino Tempo And April Stevens and Clydie King. The Parade, comprising Riopelle, Murray MacLeod and Smokey Roberds, made its A&M Records debut with the well-crafted ‘Sunshine Girl’, a beautiful, summery group composition which reached number 20 in the US chart in April 1967. Despite being redolent of the Turtles or the Association, none of the Parade’s subsequent five singles were hits and the group dissolved in 1968.
