Ouroboros embraces allthe hallmarks of technical-death metal: a mysterious name, heavily distortedsounds, and virtuosic playing ability.
This Sydney-based quintet has beenapplauded by critics who say that “Ouroboros are one of the finest death metalbands in the country…” that will "…settle for no less thanperfection" (Metal Obsession & MetalReviews). Industry-leaders haveacknowledged Ouroboros’ talents via awards for ‘best unsigned band’, ‘best bassplayer’ and ‘best drummer’ at the Australian Heavy Metal Awards. In addition tothis, The Australia Council—the arts funding body of the Australiangovernment—has awarded the band a generous grant to support the production oftheir next album.
In themidst of the live music scene, the band has developed a well-deservedreputation for producing extremely tight and unforgettable shows. Theband's debut album—Glorification of a Myth—was independently released in June2011 and has been hailed by critics as "A new benchmark for death metalproduction..." (Metal-Archives). The album was completely self-funded andshowcased the band’s unbridled talent and commitment to producing world-classmusic. Glorification of a Myth was followed up with a music video for‘Sanctuary’, one of the most popular songs from the album. Shortly after thevideo's premiere on MTV and Rage, one critic claimed that "it’s quitepossibly the best video done by a local band ever!” (theMusic) The video wasproduced in collaboration with director Paul Shedlowich who used guerrillafilm-making techniques to capture exceptional Australian locations and actingtalent. This video pushes boundaries both visually and conceptually and is astandout companion piece for the Glorification of a Myth album.
In2012 the Australia Council for the Arts awarded Ouroboros a $20,000 grant toassist fund the production of the band’s next album, Emanations: an ambitious project which will incorporatemusic recorded in collaboration with a leading symphony orchestra in Prague. This exciting new album has already enjoyed a great deal of press includinginterviews with The Australian, Triple M, Triple J, 3AW, HEAVY Magazine andRevolver Magazine.
Thedecision to incorporate a symphony orchestra was largely influenced by theband’s admiration for western art music as well as their drive to break thenorms of their genre. According to Ouroboros’ guitarist and orchestrator ChrisJones “The orchestra has a limitless ability to evoke great emotion and we wantto harness that power for our next release. This collaboration with a symphonicorchestra will add colossal support to our sound and will ultimately createsomething powerful, unique and exciting.”
The first single from Emanations- 'The Sleep of Reason'was released in December 2014 to much delight of loyal fans.
This coincided with the news that Emanations isset for a March release date.
