Christopher Tyrone Ravenel (aka Thelonius) never intended to get involved with music.
Born on December 25, 1986, he expressed himself through various mediums of art which included painting, drawing and other variables. In addition to that, he also enjoyed writing poems and short stories. When he hit high school, he ended up meeting a lot of classmates who would freestyle and battle at lunch but he never participated. He says, "Some of my friends who rap have been writing raps since they were 12 or 13, but I got a bit of a late start. I didn't start until I was 19." Though he was a late bloomer, he was born into a musical family. Most of his aunts, uncles, cousins and even his grandmother could sing in the church choir. At age 12, he learned to play the piano but he never read musical notes. He grew up in a household with alot of gospel. Other minimal influences include Luther Van Dross, Grover Washington Jr., and various jazz artists. It eventually lead him to find interest in others as well, such as Marvin Gaye, Tears for Fears, Gil-Scott Heron, Michael Jackson, Curtis Mayfield, Creedence Clearwater Revival and numerous other influences. In regards to hip-hop, Thelonius gained a sense of influence from Nas, Lupe Fiasco, 2Pac, Styles P, Common, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, OutKast, UGK & The Roots. After he graduated high school in 2006, Thelonius attended Antonelli Institute for Arts & Photography. It was there he met his friends Bailey Mansfied & Ozmeazy and they formed a hip-hop group called Genius. They recorded songs in the closet of their apartment and uploaded them up on MySpace as a hobby but the feedback was positive. He says, “I feel God has bestowed a gift upon me and I don’t take it lightly trust me. I really didn’t get noticed in Harrisburg until I started doing collaborations but you know…people started talking.” In May 2008, Thelonius graduated from college with his Associate's Degree for Specialized Technology. When he returned home to Harrisburg, he picked up the hobby again and worked closely with artists Kid Dynomite (formerly LiL' T) & Capeesh. Through those affiliations, he slowly garnished the attention of others. Although still closely linked to Genius at the time, Thelonius took the time to record his first mixtape "North By Midwest" and released it in January 2010 with minimal reception. Not one to be deterred, he consistently posted songs on various social networking sites including MySpace, Facebook, SoundCloud & Reverbnation.
Since then, Thelonius has worked with a vast variety of others including Mazon, Cool Davis, Cordell, Top Nach, Entellekt, JAO, Ace The Mayor, B. Crosson, Shift Da Infamous, Tee Wills, Mister Mills & various artists from 4Duub Records, DB4D & Full Focus Entertainment. In addition to Harrisburg, Thelonius continued to build music with Philadelphia natives such as MT, Underdog Empire & Black Heart Music Group. In November 2011, Thelonius released his second mixtape entitled "LovEnemy" which was met with a more positive reception. Within that same month Thelonius & Bailey Mansfield launched Childhood Alumni, a group of underground artists consisted of York City's Lady Shakespeare & Philadelphia emcees Mic Don, Zar'lier Green & F.5. In between solo projects, Genius released their first and only mixtape together entitled "One Small Step." In early 2012, Ozmeazy left Genius and pursued other endeavors, leaving Marz & Thelonius to release "Splendiferous" before Genius disbanded. However, the three remain extremely close friends and still frequently collaborate. By this time, Thelonius continued to write music and worked some of his first live performances at open mics and local shows. for Father's Day, he released a song on Twitter entitled "My Father's Song" which landed him an on-air interview segment with Talktainmentradio.com. He managed to build a small buzz before the release of his highly-anticipated third project "Roses In GangLand" in August of 2012. After a personal hiatus, Thelonius returned to the local music scene to further collaborate and work towards his goal of gaining international attention.
