With his exotic, smooth and melodious voice, the Nigerian born R&B/Afrobeats artist Oakcee continues to inspire great music.
Radio DRS 3 -Black Music Special- presenter Sascha Rossier described the singer as Akon of Switzerland when his Single ”This Girl“ made its radio debut in 2009. A son of his father who was a Church Choir Master during his youth days, “As a child I was always marveled at my Dad’s beautiful falsetto each time he’s humming a tune mostly from the gospel and its very nice to know that I drank from the same water or whatever made his voice special” He says proudly. Renowned Producer Sergio Fertitta was quick to make this remark “there's
something about your music as a whole, the way you sound, you have a voice you can call your own, you are very original” when he sat down with the producer at his home/studio in Zurich.
At the age of ten, Oakcee left home to attend a Catholic Seminary School , it was at this point in his life that he discovered his singing talent and passion for music while in the reputable Seminary school choir where they only sang gospel songs and went on singing competitions, he went from boy Soprano to Tenor and then became a cantor “ I can say that from this period of my life I have never been able to separate myself from music even after leaving Seminary School” Oakcee told Ed Smart on the–Big Break Fast Show- during his first radio interview on RWS fm 103.3 UK.
Born Okechukwu Chukwuma Anioke or simply Okey as close friends especially Africans fondly call him, raised in a staunch Catholic home with five siblings, “every single person in my family can sing to an extent and it was my elder brother who introduced me to reggae and pop music as we listened to Bob Marley and Michael Jackson” Oakcee became also influenced by Boyz II Men, Joe, Luther Vandross, Maria Carey and these Urban R&B influences kind of shaped him as an artist when he started writing his own lyrics at the age of 14.
Oakcee left the shores of his native country Nigeria as a graduate of Marketing, from the Institute of Management And Technology Enugu in search of greener pastures. You can travel far and wide but you can never depart from yourself and that was the case for Oakcee, because no sooner had he settled down in Switzerland did he start searching and connecting with other musicians, people who shared the same dreams to keep his own dream and passion alive.
Oakcee started working with Sound Engineer/Music Producer Mat Hillebrand of Phatmedia studios in 2007, he released his first Single same year “Lets Groove” which received little or no attention, but his major exposure came in 2009 after he recorded Time EP, Oakcee warmed his way into the hearts of several listeners who heard some beautiful songs from the EP like, “This Girl” “Middle Of The Nite” and “Heartbreak” and the singer was already wining himself fans from almost every part of the world.
